And AGAIN..

What better way to waste time here? We went AGAIN today. Although, it only lasted 20 minutes. We went way too close to nap time.

Driving to the beach...

At the beach!

Passed out.

Here is Caden's first time sitting up like the big boy he is in the water.

But now that I sit here, trying to eat an apple, blog and take my break, Caden is in his room fighting his nap. It never fails...dont ever let this kid take a power nap...not even for 5 minutes...or else you pay.

The weekend went way too fast!

Here is what we were lucky enough to do...

Hard to believe its only Tuesday here. I swear it should be Thursday already. I think its because we are dreading this next week. Base wide inspection/exercise. This means Dada will be camping out in the jungle for 5 days playing war, instead of coming home to be with his family. *sigh* We will miss, yet AGAIN, ANOTHER wedding anniversary. In our 8 years (gasp!) of marriage, we have only been able to celebrate TWO together, in the same place.

Coral Elephant?

A few days ago when we went to the beach to let Kayla play...Ok...to play with our new camera...we were walking back to the car and somehow I saw this in the sand. I dont know how I saw it but I did it. It's a piece of coral carved into an Elephant. How the heck?
I think its really neat and what are the chances that I walked towards this and actually saw it? Its nearly the same color as the sand.

Is it something someone did recently? Like maybe something someone has a talent for and sells them at the local markets and it somehow ended up in the ocean and then somehow washed up on the beach on base?

Or is it something that has been in the ocean for a few months? A few years? It is missing half a leg and half of it's trunk, and looks as if it was beat up for a while. Is it something REALLY old with a story hidden behind it?

I dont know....but I sure would LOVE to know.

On the other blog....check out my Turkey Lime Burgers I made for dinner last night!

Last night was...

SUCCESS!

She napped until 5:30. ( I don't normally let her nap this late) Went to bed at 8:30. Then the phone rang at 10:30 and woke her up. She cried, I ignored her. Then she cried at 3 am and I ignored her. She went back to sleep until 6. Then I took her bed and we both slept until 7! I need to keep up with this schedule!

Hope it wasn't just a fluke. It's so hard to find the right schedule. We been on the same one since birth, and well, it just isn't working anymore.

We walked the beach a couple nights ago. Kayla found this stick and she would not put it down.

Nice

So, I went back to the doctor today. I have been off of the prednisone for a week now and the past few days I have been itchy. It got worse, caused me to loose sleep over it and then mornings ago the poison oak started to spread, once again. Over to my other ankle...all bubbly and gross. Onto my big toe, more on both my upper thighs...and this morning onto my left arm and both thumbs.

The doc said in 90% of cases 5 days of presidone works. I happen to be the lucky 10% of cases that has a severe allergy to posion of all kinds.

So back on the presidone I go...for 2 weeks...then a lower dosage for another week...then another lower dosage for another week. Now mind you...this is a steriod that makes me feel like crap. Lovely huh?

Prednisone is a hormone. It decreases the body's immune system's response to various diseases to reduce the symptoms, including allergic reactions. It it typically used to treat arthritis, blood disorders, breathing problems, certain cancers, eye problems and skin diseases.

YUCK. It scares me thinking about having to take it this long with caring for Kayla by myself.

But I am tired of this. I cant take it anymore. It is EXTREAMLY uncomfortable and ugly. I live on a tropical island that is smoking hot out everyday and I cant wear shorts. I cant go swimming. I have to wear pants at all times to stop it from spreading to other areas and most of all to prevent spreading it to others including Kayla.

Yuck. YUCK.

But, last night we went to the beach for some play and pictures. I wore pants. We went with my neighbor who is back here now. She was gone for 6 months spending time with her family while the guys are deployed. I am happy to have her back.

Here are some of my favorites. Each time I get better and better at taking the pictures. I may ask Nick for a camera upgrade. :) I took a lot. It was hard to pick which to put on the blog...but here are some.

A lot can happen in an hour at the beach....

For example...
A Mama can take a video of a little girl playing in the sand. And the video's colors can turn out funky so a Mama can tell a Dada that a Mama needs a new video camera. (hint, hint)

And a lot of picture action can happen too.
For example...
(Pictures not taken with my good Canon camera)

Kayla's hair clippy made by Tina. Click here to see her store. Kayla's dress sent by Grammy. Thank you both.

Thursday's sea glass hunt

On Thursday afternoon, before we went to wing night, we walked the beach on a sea glass hunt. The waves have been massive the last few days before Thursday so I was sure we would be able to get some good finds. And boy did we! We had fun too. Kayla just loves the beach.
I find sea glass to be so incredible. I look at each piece and wonder how old the piece is. I wonder if Im holding a piece of history in my hands. I looked up online what exactly sea glass is and I was quite surprised. Here is what I found.

Sea glass
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sea glass in several colors and shapes.
Sea glass (also known as beach glass, mermaid's tears, lucky tears, and many other names) is glass found on beaches along oceans or large lakes that has been tumbled and smoothed by the water and sand, creating small pieces of smooth, frosted glass.[1]
Sea glass is one of the very few cases of a valuable item being created from the actions of the environment on man-made litter.

The color of sea glass is determined by its original source. Most sea glass comes from bottles, but it can also come from jars, plates, windows, windshields, glasses, art, flasks, containers, and any other glass source that has found its way into the ocean. Some collectors also collect sea pottery.
The most common colors of sea glass are kelly green, brown, and clear. These colors come from bottles used by companies that sell beer, juices, and soft drinks. The clear or white glass comes from clear plates and glasses, windshields, windows, and assorted other sources.[2]
Less common colors include jade, amber (from bottles for whiskey, medicine, spirits, and early bleach bottles), golden amber (mostly used for spirit bottles), lime green (from soda bottles during the 1960s), forest green, and soft blue (from soda bottles, medicine bottles, ink bottles, and fruit jars from the late 1800s and early 1900s, windows, and windshields.) These colors are found about once for every 25 to 100 pieces of sea glass found.[2]
Uncommon colors of sea glass include sea foam, which comes primarily from early to mid-1900s Coca-Cola, Dr Pepper, and RC Cola bottles, as well as beer bottles. Soft green colors could come from bottles that were used for ink, fruit, and baking soda. These colors are found once in every 50 to 100 pieces.[2]
Purple sea glass is very uncommon, as is citron, opaque white (from milk glass), cobalt and cornflower blue (from early Milk of Magnesia bottles, poison bottles, artwork, and Bromo-Seltzer and Vicks VapoRub containers), and aqua (from Ball Mason jars and 19th century glass bottles.) These colors are found once for every 200 to 1,000 pieces found.[2]
Rare and extremely rare colors include gray, pink (often from Great Depression era plates), teal (often from Mateus wine bottles), black (older, very dark olive green glass), yellow (often from 1930s Vaseline containers), turquoise (from tableware and art glass), red (often from nautical lights, found once in every 5,000 pieces), and orange (the least common type of sea glass, found once in 10,000 pieces.) These colors are found once for every 1,000 to 10,000 pieces collected. Some of the black glass is quite old, originating from thick eighteenth-century gin, beer and wine bottles.[2]

I just think sea glass is quite amazing. And the searching for it is so relaxing. It's like spending time with Mother Nature herself. I enjoy every second and plan to have a nice collection by the time Nick gets home from deployment.

Here are a few pictures from our sea glass hunt.

I also found the husks of a coconut. Looks like someone went coconut hunting on the beach and chopped one open.

Ok, well Kayla and Nick are in bed early tonight, so Im going to grab a diet coke and Doritos and the tv remote. Has anyone else tried the new Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos? Yum-o! I know, bad me. Oh well.

While Daddy's at work for the day, the girls will play.

Kayla and I went to the beach today. Not for long. It was too hot. I didnt take sunscreen and she was sweating. Just long enough for fresh air, pictures/videos and coral/shell/sea glass collecting along with a little walk.

I took a ton of pictures. It was hard to limit the amount to put on here for your viewing pleasure. Click the picture to enlarge it.
Videos to come soon. They are taking forever to upload.

Don't forget to check back for my contest give away in celebration of Kayla's 6 month birthday on the 30th!
