Random Updates

** Kayla is still teething terribly. Today is day 4 of this. She still has a light fever, but mostly is just in pain. Still only 1 of the 4 canine teeth are through. The other 3 are just big white bubbles that look like they are going to burst a tooth the size of a shark. She has 3 fever blisters now all on the inside bottom lip. She is just miserable.

** Still haven't got any tylenol or motrin at any stores here on island but I did score an unopened bottle of children's ibuprofen. Kayla's motrin bottle is now gone, so we will start this, this evening. Hopefully before that runs out she will be all better, or we come across some more meds somehow.

** Caden is up to 16 pounds and hes not even 4 months old until June 4th. He is only 5 lbs less than Kayla now. He is quickly growing out of almost all of his pajamas. I scored some clothes this morning that a lady is selling for $1 a piece that I will get to pick up on Monday!

** He is reaching for his feet and anything within his reach. He has finished one week of rice cereal mixed with sweet potatoes, so onto the next: applesauce. He is becoming a pro in his Jumperoo. We are still waiting for him to release his laugh, he is so close!

** I am down 5 pounds. Still cant run worth anything, but Im taking long heavy walks and also doing the walk 6 mins/ run 1 min thing, repeat 3 times. The scale this morning said 151.

Fever

Last night I only did a walk. My legs were so sore!!

Kayla has had a terrible fever for 2 days now. Yesterday at 5 am it started. My poor girl. I dont even know what to say. I just hate seeing her like this. She is OK after a nice dose of Motrin, for a couple hours her temp will stay steady at 99, then it just all hits her again. She will sky rocket back up to 102. At this point she is too tired to cry...she just climbs up to the couch and falls asleep. Once it goes down to 101-100 she has just enough energy to cry and be miserable.

She has 4 teeth coming in. Both the 2 on top and 2 on bottom, canine teeth.

I took her into the doc today hoping we could get some prescription tylenol. The bx is all out due to a recall. But even the clinic is out. The shipment hasn't come in yet. This rock we live on just kills me sometimes. The doc said to go downtown to a local grocery store to get some...but I didnt realize until I got home that they too would probably be out. Its a recall for goodness sake. A worldwide recall. So they too most likely wont have it.

Im down to one half bottle of motrin. And hoping that we can find something else weather it be a children's ibuprofen or a non name brand something. Anything.

Is it time to move off this tiny rock in the middle of nowhere in the pacific ocean yet???

Worst teething night thus far

Oh boy. I don't even know where to begin. I'm just going to say it.
Last night was the worst night I have had with Kayla. I put her to bed as normal at 8 pm. At 10 the crying began never stopped. I am not used to this. Normally while teething, she will cry no longer and a 2 minute span and then be back to sleep for the night. Not last night.
Finally at 1 AM, I took her to bed with me and that didn't help much. After a while we both fell asleep but I was woken up many times with her tossing and turning and eventually crying again at 4 am.
So I brought her out to the couch with me where she fell asleep on my chest and I fell asleep too, but again, being woken several times between about 5 and 7 am.
Nothing helped her. Nothing. No amount of medicine, no amount of consoling, no amount of ignoring her, no bottle. Nothing.

I give major respect to this single parents out there. Major. This is no easy task. At least I have light to be seen at the end of the tunnel and I know me doing this alone wont last forever. Only 3 more weeks in fact.

Needless to say, I'm FREAKING EXHAUSTED. (So glad I decided to shower last night before all this crying started)And I am thankful for the raining day we are having. Correction- I am thankful for the down pour that is going on right now. The rain is falling so thick I can barely see my neighbors house! I love tropical rain.

As of 11:00 p.m., the tropical depression 15W at 15 degrees north and 152.1 degrees east, or about 500 miles east-northeast of Guam, said the National Weather Service.

A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Guam and Rota. That means that tropical storm conditions including damaging winds of 39 to 74 mph are expected within 48 hours. A typhoon watch is in effect for Tinian and Saipan.

Something more enlightening...Kayla has new curtains in her room. It only took a year for me to find a set at the BX. Stupid AAFES.

Here is before:
(HATED these curtains but its all I could do)

After:

Now, just gotta find some matching bedding for the twin size bed in her room.

Oh boy...

For the 4th (I think) day in a row Kayla has had me up at 4 am with her crying. I assume it's her teeth. She is miserable and I am exhausted doing this all on my own. It's not a complaint. I am thankful to be able to spend all my days and nights with her, weather they are miserable or exciting. It just drains me, stresses me out and Im totally exhausted. Nothing I do for her makes her happy. I think its her teeth because her front top tooth just popped out on her birthday and her other top tooth is just right behind. I don't understand why babies are made to grow teeth in this painful way.

Kayla's birthday party was a disaster. Let me first tell you about her actual birthday. I took her out to lunch to the base bowling alley. We got bbq chicken sticks, a shanghi lumpia and rice...ok, so Mama picked her favorite lunch there and not Kayla's. But she enjoyed it. We then went to our friend's house where her wagon was presented to her. She was so excited to see it she let out a scream and huge smile and climbed right into it. Then our friend gave her a couple pairs of hair bows were a big hit and a an italian charm bracelet with a charm that says Kayla's 1st Birthday...which she will enjoy later down the road.

Her birthday party however, wasn't so great. I am even wishing I wouldn't have spent the money trying to have one for her. The day started off bad with me waking up at 4 am with Kayla. She wouldn't go back to sleep until 7:30. She slept until 9. She woke up miserable again and wanted to go back to sleep at 10. It down poured all night and was still going. I had hope it would stop so the kids could play in the pool with water balloons and play on Kayla's jumpy castle. At 11 we took off to the BX to get ink for the printer. The rain was on pause. So I thought we would take a drive to the base Arts and Crafts center to get her Mickey balloon blown up. While there I got 2 other latex Birthday Girl balloons for her. As we were paying the torrential downpour began all over again.

I had to make it to the commissary. I was do to pick up our fruit tray and finger sandwich tray at 12. We ran into the bx. Got soaked. Picked up our stuff and a few other items we needed for baked ziti and blue cheese stuffed burgers. (Which I am totally craving both)

Ok, I cant think now...Kayla is crying up a storm. Or shall I say screaming? I think that fits. I will finish this up later. Gotta go.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! (lots-o-pictures)

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone.

It turns out that there was a reason I wasn't getting much sleep the last couple of night. I feel terrible about it now. Kayla has a tooth. I noticed it yesterday and I feel so totally terrible for letting be in such pain at night without giving her any medicine. My poor girl. I should have known something was wrong when she cried because she never cries. Seriously, she just doesn't cry. I guess the good thing is now I know when she acts this way it's because she is hurting. I feel so terrible.
Last night was a success. She went to bed at 7:30. I gave her teething tablets and Motrin and I took some Benedryl and went to bed at 8. I didn't hear a peep from her until 11:30. She was up a few times but I just pat her butt to sleep. She woke at 6 am but I wasn't ready so I took her to bed with me until 7 am. I feel a million times better.

Yesterday I got to chat with Nick through email for a few minutes. I didn't a whole lot of info from him since he was busy asking about us. But that is ok with me. I did get this from him:
I am getting over my cold. I am so glad. My voice is coming back. We only have 2 more days outside, then we are indoors for the majority of the rest of the days. I cant wait to move on from here. The leadership is so gungho and hardcore. They dont let us relax at all. They march us everywhere and make us sing jodies when marching. Its like basic training. I will be glad once this deployment is done and I am home in your arms.
We have been wearing our vests for 12 hours a day. My back is killing me.

Also, Thank you Grammy for sending Kayla and I such nice care packages. It means more to us than you know.

Hooters make me feel better

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I had a rough morning yesterday, then again last night a rough night. I couldn't sleep at all. I got maybe a total of 3 hours of sleep. Kayla had a rough night too. She couldn't get to sleep for her nap or for bed time without a few tears. She was rubbing on her jaw and ear so I assume her teeth were keeping her awake. Both times I gave her a healthy dose of Tylenol and to sleep she went.

I did get invited to lunch yesterday. A Hooters restaurant just opened up on Guam on Thursday. I am beyond happy about this. This is mine and Nick's absolute favorite place to eat. Its entertaining, we both get our favorite foods- wings, and Nick gets beer. I have not had better wings anywhere else. It was Kayla's first time at Hooters and she sure did enjoy the fries! We had fried pickles, curly fries, and I of course ordered wings in Teriyaki and Parmesan Garlic! I fell in love with the friend pickles and I'm on a hunt for this recipe. I know it's a southern food....and of my southern blog readers know how to make these?

I cant wait to tell Nick about this. He is going to be so jealous and so upset that they decided to open so soon after he left. Now he has to wait until October.

I thought of a gift for him too for when he gets home. hehe. Im going to buy him a Hooter's gift card and give it to him. "Welcome home! Now take us to dinner!" LOL!
Im sure he wont mind.
